HAIR CARE REHAB

Hey guys! Today I am beyond excited to tell you about a new book I've had the privilege of reviewing.

HAIR CARE REHAB.

Let me tell you what. Whether you prefer to blow dry and tease everyday, or if you're more of an air-drying, laid back girl... you think about your hair. Come on. You know you do. You may even be a tad-bit obsessed with your hair. Face it, most girls are. We are identified by our hair. I was always the "blonde cheerleader," or the "blonde who runs the 400," or the "blonde who is so smart and awesome" (right?)... but either way, people know me as a blonde.

And you know what? Whether boys brake for brunettes, get razzed over redheads, or swoon toward blondes... they notice your hair, too. In fact, I bet many guys make first impression judgements simply based on how our hair looks.

That means it needs to look good. And for most of us, we could use a pick-me-up. That's where Hair Care Rehab comes in.

Written by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy, it's, as she calls it, the "ultimate hair repair and conditioning manual." I know when you think of a "hair" book, you may be yawning already. Let me tell you what... Audrey wrote it for US, ladies. She keeps it interesting. She keeps it fresh. She answers the questions we want to know... from "What is hair damage?" to "How do I get my hair to grow faster?" to "What's the best product for my type of hair?"

The book is filled with helpful answers to all your question, includes tons of awesome photos, and is written in a voice that makes it fun. It's not a cut and dry book. She's humorous, she's witty, and let me tell you, Audrey is smart.

Overall, I loved the book. It helped me, especially with this 365-day project I've got going on right now where I try to eliminate my "drug of choice" as she calls it (blow dryer, straightener, etc.). I learned a lot of things. Such as, getting a trim regularly will NOT make your hair grow faster. Wait... what?! They've always told me that... and I got suckered into believing it. Yep. Want more details? You need to read the book!

I loved the answers provided in this book. They're complete. They're detailed. They're to the point. I had so many questions answered. I'm amazed at how much I learned... and how fun, surprisingly, it was to read about hair.

I really have hardly any criticism for the book. Honestly? I'm a mega-fan of color photos. I think that's the only thing that would have upped my level of love for this new book. Yes... that's it.

Seriously, you guys, you need to read this book. And you know what? 5 of you are going to get your very own copies! Yep!! Enter via Rafflecopter below. Giveaway is open internationally and closes at midnight on June 7th!

3-Minute Messy Bun with a POP of Braided Fun

Ingredients for a messy bun with a POP of braided fun:
  1. Dirty hair.
  2. Dry shampoo.
  3. Reverse French braid (a.k.a. cornrow or Dutch braid... French braid strands under each other instead of over).
  4. Messy bun at the nape of your neck.
Prep time: 1 day to dirty-up your hair. Works best if ends have a slight curl to them.

Bake time: 3-minutes.

Enjoy for 1 (or 2) days ♥

Month 7.

Month 1. Month 2. Month 3.
Month 4. Month 5. Month 6.
Month 7.

7 things about my 7 months so far:
  1. I have seen substantial hair growth. Awesome.
  2. I used hairspray and product and have blow dried, teased and curled my hair ONCE. Yes. I did. It was this last Friday, May 11th (on my exact 7-month mark) and it was for my best friend's wedding in Oklahoma. A hairstylist came and did it because: (1) I was a bridesmaid and was not about to embarrass myself by friar-tucking it on Ashton's wedding day. (2) We all had our hair done and (3) I refused to do my own hair... If I was going to make an exception to my rules, someone else was going to do it for me! I said I would make one exception, for my sister's wedding in September, but this one was not taken into account when I made my rules in October because she hadn't been engaged yet! Oh... and yes I do plan on posting some photos from that day as soon as I see some from her photographer!
  3. When measuring hair growth, it's imperative to use a white t-shirt. Black does not work.
  4. It would have been helpful if I'd have measured my hair next to a ruler each time. Or if I'd have made notches on the wall with a pencil, like a child's growth chart. Lesson learned.
  5. A year is a really, really long time.
  6. Daniel basically begs me to give this whole thing up every day. I almost give in each time.
  7. Apparently, I switch cell phone covers every 3 months.

Braided Ballerina Bun

It has been FOREVER and a day since I've been inspired to try a new hairstyle.

This one came to me while I was sitting at my desk last week and about to head to an event.
I desperately needed something to control my mane. I did not want to be surrounded by a bunch of big-wigs with my air-dryed and lifeless hair hanging over my face.
I came up with a simple reverse French braid (or cornrow braid) down one side of my head, which is then wrapped around a ballerina bun that I created with the rest of my hair and a couple spin pins.
It is definitely an easy fix that classes up the simple ballerina bun.
I got lots of compliments and it didn't budge a bit.

I would have really enjoyed just a tad bit of hairspray... but at least you'll have the option to use some!

xoxo
